I've just watched a TV feature on Blue peter (Not by choice, I was flicking channels. Its a really crappy kids magazine programme which has been going for years and is pretty much a flagship show for kids TV in UK.) It started with the presenter saying 'Here on Blue Peter, we're always really worried about how kids see themselves and their Body Image...' etc. Great, I thought, they might actually have a feature on how kids can build up their self esteem and confidence!

It went on to one of the presenters to get made up and don a fat suit. But rather than give her the same kind of snazzy clothes she wore as a presenter, they made her wear a horrible bright pink neon jumper and a pretty unflattering beige skirt. Oh, and no make up over the prosthetics.

Then, she had to walk around the streets moaning about how she couldn't find anything to wear, without even *trying* the shops for bigger figures. She banged on about how she was getting weird looks (none of which were caught on camera, by the way) and concentrated more on how crap she felt etc. Anyway, the whole thing was a load of crap complete with the line 'If this level of obesity keep growing, children will die before their parents.' Oh great. What a thing to say on a kids show!

I just can't understand how a show claiming to be 'concerned about kids body image' can just spend 5 minutes saying 'Being Fat Is Bad. End Of Discussion.' I'm beginning to see why being a fat grown up is so much more awesome than being a fat kid!

Sorry, just ranting. But anyone else spotted anything where they promote fat as Being Bad under cover of a 'sefl esteem' thing?
