Living in California, whenever I turn on the TV I am being treated to a flood of commercials by Meg Whitman, the former eBay CEO who now wants to become governor of California.
It's not even the primaries yet, and so far Whitman has spent a gross amount of money attacking her opponent, Steve Poizner (interestingly also an ex-CEO). Now Poizner comes across as hapless and whiny enough to defeat himself without any help, but what baffles me is how Whitman thinks spending tens of millions on truly dumb TV commercials that so far haven't offered even a thread of substance will convince people to elect her. If that's the best the Republicans can offer (and I say that as a registered Republican), then ole' guv Moonbeam Jerry Brown must be laughing all the way to the bank, because he won't have to spend much to handily defeat either Whitman or Poizner.
