I'm pretty sure there's not already a thread about this (though I'm open to correction), so I'm going to go ahead with this one. I already tried to write it once but deleted it by accident.

Anyway, here's my question: what do we men think about our bodies?

I'm a pretty skinny guy and haven't ever had to do anything to maintain that, so I've always kind of taken my body for granted. But after years of perusing Dimensions, I've started to think about how body image issues apply to me, and to guys in general. I've seen lots of threads on the forums dealing with how weight, health, self-esteem, and a host of other things are tied up with body image, but these conversations almost always apply to women.

What about us guys? Shouldn't we be asking these same questions of ourselves? Is this taboo for men, or does it somehow not apply? I feel like I could easily tell a woman not to worry about gaining weight, that she would still be beautiful, that the health risks are exaggerated, etc., but could I take my own advice? Could I feel just as confident in myself if I started packing on the pounds? If I could, it would take me a long time to get there, and yet we so often expect women to jump into these attitudes immediately.

So, what do y'all think?
