Need some sewing help please!

So I am trying to make a bikini top and am copying an already made one. I figured out EVERYTHING but the damn pocket for the string to go through at the bottom of the top. The yellow top in the pictures is of course the professional one. The other one.....is mine

HOw the heck is the fabric so smooth and non-lumpy?!?!?!?! Anyone have the trick to do that?
