Haven't been paying too much attention to American politics lately (too much drama over in Australia), but I did catch this just-released political ad by the Obama campaign which uses the Osama Bin Laden killing / Navy SEALS campaign which happened about a year ago.
As a student of advertising and a follower of politics, I thought it would be interesting to ask the question - has Obama overstepped the mark in covering this event in a political ad?
Granted, it was a significant achievement and gave closure and some resolution to many victims of Al Qaeda's terror attacks not only in the US but around the world.
It was also an achievement which Dubya couldn't accomplish during his administration.
But would a Republican President have done anything differently given the opportunity (as Obama claims against Romney)?
The Navy SEALS went in to Abbottabad, Pakistan representing all Americans - not just the Democrat party.
Some pundits - including Arianna Huffington (not normally one who lines up with the Republicans) have stated that it is inappropriate for Obama to exploit the event in political campaign advertising.
