Pope Benedict XVI, who will be 86 in April, has announced that he will resign Feb. 28, saying he is too old and tired to go on. This is the first resgination of a pope since 1611, during the Catholic Church's great schism, when there were popes in both Avignon and Rome, and one of them resigned to end the schism.
It's probably that the College of Cardinals will meet as it usually does on the death of a pope and elect a new one.
