The idea that government must always be subject to "strict accounting" is one of the core ideas in The Shanghai Textbook of Maoist Economics.

Christie exhorted that his way is to be plain and direct about what we have to do, and that one of those things is a hard look at faith in unions. A critique of "meer trade unionism", I read this. I read it in an essay by Lenin himself. The title? "What Is To Be Done".

Leaders should seek "respect over love", says Christie, who goes on to excoriate the desire of officeholders for popularity, saying "leaders don't follow polls, they change polls". Why, my word, am I being informed by this arch-conservative capitalist that leadership is compromised when it tails the masses?

But in the end, he says he believes in one thing both dogmatic statists and Tea Partiers find distasteful: "principled compromise".
