In the middle of our sickness and our plumbing emergency, I got a phone call tonight from my daughter in NJ. Gloria is 29, and putting herself through county college to study journalism. She needed some information from me because tomorrow she's meeting with a recruiter from Montclair State, one of the better state schools in NJ.
She told me that Montclair State offers full-tuition scholarships for Phi Beta Kappa members. Then she surprised me with the news that she has been accepted into Phi Beta Kappa, and currently has a 3.94 GPA.
Sandie and I are both very proud of Gloria. She has been supporting herself since she was 18, and is a very self-sufficient young woman. Besides her studies, she also works as a vet tech at a local animal hospital, a part-time waittress, and this semester she is Editor-In-Chief of the school paper. All this while battling Graves disease...
