I had a trial starting last Wednesday so I went to the office early -- it was still dark. As I walked from my car to my office I passed several homeless people sleeping on benches and in doorways (not uncommon in Fresno). What caught my attention was one group of homeless people -- a family of three -- a young man sitting on a retaining wall standing guard while his wife and young son slept on the street by his feet. They were obviously new to the street as their skin was still white not the gray of the long-term homeless and their hair was still relatively clean.
So this is what we've become. Some shining beacon.
