Australia, I read today, has too many camels. Camels are not native to Australia, but, back in the nineteenth century, someone decided they needed camels*, and camels were duly imported. And now there are a lot of wild camels that no one is quite sure what to do with. Except the Australian government, of course, which has decided that the quickest and cheapest way to get rid of camels is to get the Australians to eat them. They are advertised as tasting like a cross between venison and beef, which means they probably taste a lot like an old sneaker. But perhaps I'm overly cynical. Is there someone from Oz who has tasted camel and can tell the rest of us what, if anything, we are missing?
