What the locals eat.

While traveling through the country, it's nauseating to see the same restaurants at every pit stop / town. (Applebee's, Chili's, KFC, etc). I like to eat at favorite local spots. But unfortunately, those establishments can sometimes be diffacult to find! Does anyone have any tips on finding local's favorites? If I recall correctly, there are websites, and even iphone apps.
