Pleasantly abstruse.
Having been stymied in their grand strategy to increase their hold on power in Washington, what comes next? The current course obviously isn't working, because the Republican position is weaker now than it was before the election. The Democrats increased their control of the Senate and chipped at Republican control of the House. And, of course, they didn't win the presidency.
