Diet culture is everywhere. Not one of us escapes it to some extent, at least in Europe and North America and certainly well beyond. One conclusion I take from this is that even the most passionate, committed feedees and gainers grew up under diet culture and still walk around with at least some internalized fatphobia.

So I'm curious, feedees and gainers: how do you reconcile your feedist identities and desires with the pieces of diet culture and fatphobia living inside you?

Do you see diet culture as an external oppression without which your true, feedist nature could flourish? Did you always, since childhood, feel feedist desires, even if you didn't name them that way? Do you think your feedism is partly or entirely a reaction to diet culture, which you acquired somewhere along the way? Basically, in the story of your life that you tell yourself, what relationship do these two things have? How do they fit together?

Just to clarify, this is not a criticism: it makes sense that everyone has internalized some amount of fatphobia, etc. because the world constantly punishes and disciplines those who disobey the mandates of diet culture. What I'm curious to learn is how you make sense of your feedism in that harsh, inescapable environment.
